Candida's Paper Sourcing Policy was developed to ensure that all paper purchasing by Candida adheres to the sustainability practises laid out by Chain of Custody (CoC) Certifications.
All sourcing decision is governed by a materials ability to meet a number of key requirements. These requirements include;
- Sustainably sourced or from recycled, non-virgin materials
- Sourced from legally harvested forests
- Paper from unknown or controversial sources will not be used
- Preference is given to those papers that can be shown to have been produced sustainably, as evidenced by a credible chain of custody process. Evidence required to be provided by Candida’s key suppliers includes clear documentation supporting a full chain of custody claim.
Candida is committed to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest (PEFC) Values and Standards. Candida operates the PEFC Due Diligence System to prevent practices that conflict with PEFC Values, such as Conflict Timber and Controversial Sources. These include:
- Non compliance with local, national, international legislation
- Conversion of forest to other use
- Management of high environmental and cultural value areas
- Protection of endangered species, including CITES requirements
- Health and labour issues relating to workers
- Rights of indigenous peoples and properties
- Third parties property, tenure and use rights
- Payment of taxes and royalties
- Utilisation of genetically modified forest based organisms
Candida will not be directly or indirectly involved with the following activities:
- Illegal logging or the trade in illegal wood or forest products
- Violation of traditional and human rights in forestry operations
- Destruction of high conservation values in forestry operations
- Significant conversion of forests to plantations or non-forest use
- Introduction of genetically modified organisms in forestry operations
- Violation of any of the ILO Core Conventions
Candida carries out annual surveys of its major suppliers seeking confirmation that previous declarations and chain of custody statements are still current and relevant. Candida conducts annual internal reviews of its chain of custody record keeping, processes, and sourcing procedures for all certifications held.
